FRANKFURT Feb 26 (Reuters) - Five months after BenQ Mobile (2352.TW) filed for the insolvency of its German business, bankruptcy administrators say they have given up the search for a buyer to take over the business.

Small assets of the former Siemens (SIEGn.DE) business that proved unable to stand up to competition from far bigger rivals are set to be sold through online auction house eBay (EBAY.O) and the insolvency administrator's Website (www.pluta.net).

The latter already has an array of office equipment including computers, furniture and even plants on offer, with prices starting at 1 euro ($1.32).

A spokeswoman for the insolvency administrator said on Monday that larger items such as factory-production equipment would be sold on the second-hand market.

Many companies and groups of investors had shown interest in buying BenQ Mobile Germany, but all were rejected by the insolvency administrator or creditors' committee, most for inability to prove they had the necessary financing.

The proceeds from the asset sales will go to BenQ Mobile Germany's creditors, notably chipmaker Infineon (IFXGn.DE) and credit-insurance company Euler Hermes ELE.PA(ALVG.DE).

Taiwanese technology group BenQ took over Siemens' ailing mobile-phones unit in 2005 but gave up on turning the business around a year later in the face of fierce competition from industry giants such as Nokia (NOK1V.HE) and Motorola MOT.N.
