BASEL, Switzerland, March 12 (Reuters) - Central bank governors from the G10 group of leading economies did not expect the U.S. economy to fall into a recession, chairman Jean-Claude Trichet said on Monday.

Asked about the prospect for the U.S. economy, Trichet, who is also the President of the European Central Bank, said: "No, we did not envisage the event ... so no recession."

Trichet also said the Federal Reserve has observed an orderly slowdown in the U.S. economy.
