Vodafone bid for Fastweb highly unlikely - source
LONDON, March 12 (Reuters) - Mobile phone giant Vodafone Group Plc (VOD.L) is highly unlikely to launch a counterbid for Italian broadband provider Fastweb FWB.MI, a source close to the British group said on Monday.
"It is highly unlikely," the source, who asked not to be named, told Reuters when asked about the possibility of a rival bid from Vodafone to counter Swiss telecoms group Swisscom's planned 3.7-billion-euro ($4.9 billion) bid for Fastweb.
Vodafone declined comment. The group already has a commercial agreement with Fastweb to jointly offer parts of each other's services and was named by Italian newspapers last year as a possible suitor for the Fastweb.
