Toshiba claims Daewoo, others violate DVD patents

TOKYO, April 7 (Reuters) - Japanese electronics conglomerate Toshiba Corp. (6502.T) has filed a complaint against a unit of South Korea's Daewoo Electronics and 16 other companies for allegedly violating its patents related to DVD recorders and players.

Toshiba Corp. and Toshiba America Consumer Products LLC filed the complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday, according to a document on the ITC's Web site.

Toshiba has asked the commission to investigate Daewoo Electronics America Inc. and 16 other companies based in the United States, China and Hong Kong.

No one from Toshiba or Daewoo could be reached for comment.
