LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Microsoft Game Studios said on Tuesday a test of the new "Halo 3" game will be available May 16 on its Xbox Live online gaming service.

The test of the wildly anticipated game for the Xbox 360 console supports online competition and will finish on June 6. "Halo 3" is slated for a holiday release and stars Master Chief, who must save mankind from the grip of Covenant rule.

"Halo" and "Halo 2," both for the original Xbox console, have sold nearly 15 million units worldwide and boosted sales of that console.
