FACTBOX: Visits by Queen Elizabeth to the U.S.

(Reuters) - Britain's Queen Elizabeth II on Friday marked the 400th anniversary of Jamestown, England's first permanent settlement in North America.

Following is a short list of visits to the United States by the British queen.

* October 1957 - Visits President Dwight Eisenhower.

* July 1976 - Visits President Gerald Ford for the U.S. Bicentennial.

* February/March 1983 - Visits the West Coast.

* May 1991 - Visits President George H.W. Bush. This trip ended with a glittering dinner party for President Bush. Queen Elizabeth had earlier become the first British monarch to address a joint session of the U.S. Congress.

* May 2007 - Visits to mark the 400th anniversary of May 14, 1607, when Virginia Company explorers landed on Jamestown Island to establish the Virginia English colony on the banks of the James River.

-- While visiting Richmond, state capital of Virginia, Queen Elizabeth met survivors of the April 16 Virginia Tech massacre, in which 32 students were killed. The queen is due to attend the Kentucky Derby, the preeminent U.S. horse race, on Saturday and will arrive in Washington on Sunday.
