UPDATE 1-Alcatel-Lucent sees Q2 sales up 10 pct vs Q1
(Adds details, management quote)
PARIS May 11 (Reuters) - Alcatel-Lucent ALU.PA on Friday forecast second-quarter sales growth of 10 percent against the previous three months as it moved into an operating loss in the first quarter, hit by merger costs and disruptions.
The forecast is based on constant exchange rates.
The French-American telecoms equipment group posted an operating loss of 244 million euros ($330.3 million) for the three months to March 31 and a net profit of 199 million euros.
The figures compared with an operating profit of 246 million euros and net profit of 306 million euros in the first quarter of 2006.
Alcatel-Lucent predicted full-year sales growth of between 4 and 6 percent and said it was on track for at least 600 million euros in savings in 2007.
The first-quarter net profit was boosted by a capital gain after tax of 677 million euros on the disposal of transport, security and space units to defence electronics group Thales (TCFP.PA).
"Our industry continues to be tremendously competitive...and there are some uncertainties in China," Alcatel-Lucent Chief Executive Patricia Russo told journalists in a conference call.
