Salix says higher dose of bowel drug effective

June 18 (Reuters) - Salix Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (SLXP.O) reported positive results from a late-stage trial of a higher dose of its drug, Colazal, for the treatment of a bowel disease called ulcerative colitis.

The speciality pharmaceutical company expects to submit a new drug application for the 1100 mg dosage of Colazal by July 31.

Salix already markets Colazal, also known as balsalazide, in 750 mg strength.
