S.Korea's LG Elec sues Quanta over DVD patents
SEOUL |
SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korea's LG Electronics Inc. (066570.KS), the world's top DVD player maker, filed suit against Taiwan's Quanta (2382.TW), saying the world's biggest contract maker of laptop computers infringed on its DVD technology.
LG filed the suit with a U.S. district court in Wisconsin on July 3 and is seeking an injunction against Quanta's use of the technology and monetary compensation, the company said in a statement released on Wednesday.
"LG's claims include infringement of four patents related to DVD standard," LG said. "Quanta has been using these patents without LG's permission to produce notebook computers that were supplied to U.S. computer companies."
Quanta's major clients include top brands such as Apple Inc. (AAPL.O), Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ.N), Dell Inc. (DELL.O) and Sony Corp. (6758.T).
