"Good Morning America's" Roberts has breast cancer
NEW YORK |
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Robin Roberts, co-host of ABC television's "Good Morning America," said on Tuesday she has breast cancer.
In a statement on www.abcnews.com, Roberts said she discovered a lump in her breast after preparing a tribute piece for Joel Siegel, the "Good Morning America" film critic who died last month from colon cancer.
"Much as I was hoping the doctor would say it was nothing, she did a biopsy and confirmed that the lump I'd found was indeed an early form of breast cancer," Roberts, 46, said.
"I will be having surgery shortly and follow-up treatment in the months to come," said Roberts, who also announced her condition on "Good Morning America."
Roberts has co-hosted "Good Morning America" for the past two years with Diane Sawyer and has contributed to the breakfast program since 1995.
