FDA knows of one report of consumer with "popcorn lung"

CHICAGO (Reuters) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Wednesday it knows of one report suggesting a consumer developed a rare lung disease from eating butter-flavored microwave popcorn.

FDA spokesman Michael Herndon said the federal agency had received one report of someone who consumed large quantities of the butter-flavored popcorn and developed a life-threatening lung disease sometimes called "popcorn workers lung".
