Producer departs "Bionic" laboratory
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - NBC's "Bionic Woman," one of the most anticipated series of the new season, has suffered a malfunction before its first episode has even aired.
Glen Morgan has exited as an executive producer, apparently because he wanted to take the drama in a different direction than his cohorts. The "X-Files" veteran had served alongside David Eick ("Battlestar Galactica") and Jason Smilovic, who will remain as executive producers.
"Glen Morgan has helped create a great template for 'Bionic Woman' but has decided to pursue other endeavors now," said a statement from producer Universal Media Studios.
"Bionic Woman," touted as a reimagination of the 1970s series, stars Michelle Ryan as Jaime Sommers, a bright young woman who is transformed into a technological marvel. Miguel Ferrer, Chris Bowers, Will Yun Lee and Molly Price round out the cast.
The show, which debuts September 26, is in the midst of shooting its fifth episode. The Wall Street Journal recently reported that it has the highest audience awareness of any new show.
