LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Sean Stewart, the son of British singer Rod Stewart, has been ordered to stand trial on charges of throwing a brick at an automobile outside a Hollywood party in April.

A Los Angeles judge ruled late on Wednesday that there was sufficient evidence for the case to proceed and ordered Stewart, 27, a star and producer of cable TV reality show "Sons of Hollywood," to return to court for a hearing on October 3.

Judge Julius Title said defense and prosecution witness accounts of the incident conflicted and it would be "up to the trial court to decide the credibility of the witnesses."

Stewart is accused of throwing a brick at a couple in a pickup truck outside a party in the Hollywood Hills on April 22. He was arrested in June on a felony warrant charging him with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count each of vandalism and throwing a substance at a vehicle.

He later pleaded not guilty and remains free on bond.

The couple, Tobalus and Ericka Stein, also have filed a civil suit against Stewart.

Two witnesses at Wednesday's hearing said other people in the confrontation threw objects at the truck, not Stewart.

Sean Stewart, an aspiring model, is the son of Rod Stewart and his first wife, Alana. He appeared on "Sons of Hollywood" with childhood friends Randy Spelling, son of the late TV producer Aaron Spelling, and talent manager David Weintraub, as they tried to make names for themselves in Hollywood.
