"Biggest Loser" gains fifth season

Sun Sep 23, 2007 9:23pm EDT

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - After a promising start to its fourth installment, NBC has picked up a fifth cycle of the weight-loss reality series "The Biggest Loser."

The 14-episode new season will feature for the first time teams of two -- significant others, relatives, co-workers or best friends -- rather than individual contestants competing for a $250,000 grand prize.

Alison Sweeney will return as the host of the new installment, which is slated to begin production this fall for a midseason launch.

The fourth installment of "Loser" kicked off to 7.8 million viewers on September 11, up about 10% from the previous season premiere.
