TOKYO Oct 1 (Reuters) - Mazda Motor Corp's (7261.T) sales in the United States rose an estimated 24 percent in September from a year earlier before adjusting for the number of selling days, mainly driven by increased supply of the popular Mazda3 compact, an executive said.

Senior Managing Executive Officer Daniel Morris told a small group of reporters at the automaker's office in Tokyo that for the calendar year to date U.S. sales were up 8 percent, also thanks to a pick-up in sales of the CX-7 and CX-9 crossover models.

Morris added that sales in September globally would likely eclipse its sales record for any September.
