WestJet planes flew fuller in September

TORONTO Oct 3 (Reuters) - WestJet Airlines (WJA.TO) flew fuller planes in September, the ninth consecutive month of record high numbers, the company said on Wednesday.

The Canadian discount carrier said its load factor, the proportion of aircraft seats filled by passengers, rose to 78.7 percent in September, up from 75.2 percent in the same month the year previous.

Capacity increased 13 percent, and revenue passenger miles grew 18 percent.

"To date, 2007 has been a very positive year as we maintain focus on our vision of being one of the five most successful international airlines in the world," WestJet President and CEO Sean Durfy said in a statement.

WestJet shares were up 27 Canadian cents, or 1.6 percent, to C$17.42 in early morning trading.
