(Reuters) - Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen, 54, led his governing centre-right coalition to a third term in parliamentary elections on Tuesday.

Here are some facts about Denmark's prime minister:

* Born on January 26, 1953, the Liberal Party leader has a reputation for punctuality and meticulous planning.

* He had to quit as tax minister in 1992 because of criticism of his leadership.

* He unseated a tired Social Democrat-led coalition in November 2001 by promising to tighten rules for asylum-seekers and cut taxes in the world's second most heavily taxed country.

* He won re-election in 2005 with similar pledges and a commitment to Denmark's extensive welfare system.

* Parliamentary elections were not due until 2009, but Rasmussen called an early vote, saying he wanted a strong mandate for his plans to improve public services, especially health care.

* In 2003, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi told a news conference: "Rasmussen is the most handsome prime minister in Europe. I'm thinking of introducing him to my wife."

* Rasmussen is married to Anne-Mette. They have two daughters and one son.
