Michelle Williams haunts Scorsese mystery drama
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Michelle Williams is in final negotiations to play Leonardo DiCaprio's dead wife in Martin Scorsese's mystery drama "Shutter Island."
The actress will join Mark Ruffalo and Ben Kingsley in the Paramount Pictures film, based on a book by "Mystic River" novelist Dennis Lehane.
"Shutter" centers on two U.S. marshals (DiCaprio, Ruffalo) who travel to a Massachusetts island to investigate the disappearance of a patient from a hospital for the criminally insane. Havoc ensues as the two encounter a web of deceit, a hurricane and a deadly inmate riot that leaves them trapped on the island.
Williams' character will haunt DiCaprio's character. Kingsley has been cast as the hospital's enigmatic chief physician who reluctantly plays host to the two marshals.
Shooting is set to begin in March.
Williams, nominated for an Academy Award for her supporting role in 2005's "Brokeback Mountain," will next appear in Fox's "The List" and writer-director Charlie Kaufman's "Synecdoche, New York."
