United Technologies gets $1.5 bln US Army contract
WASHINGTON Dec 27 (Reuters) - United Technologies Corp (UTX.N) has been awarded a $1.5 billion U.S. Army contract for H-60 Hawk helicopters, the Defense Department said Thursday.
The company earlier this month said its Sikorsky Helicopter unit had signed a five-year contract potentially worth up to $11.6 billion for H-60 Hawk helicopters to be delivered to the Army and Navy.
The base contact for 537 aircraft is worth about $7.4 billion, Stratford, Connecticut-based Sikorsky said at the time. Options for another 263 units plus spares and related gear boost the overall potential value to $11.6 billion, it said.
In its announcement Thursday, the Pentagon did not specify how many helicopters were to be delivered to the Army. It said the work was to be wrapped up by the end of 2012.
The deliveries to the Army and Navy involve UH-60M Black Hawk, HH-60M MEDEVAC, MH-60S and MH-60R Seahawk aircraft, Sikorsky has said.
