NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.--(Business Wire)--The SIP Forum announced today the recent election of Eric Burger,
Deputy CTO of BEA Systems, Inc. as Chairman of the SIP Forum Board of
Directors, and the selection of leading IP communications industry
consultant and analyst Marc Robins as the Forum's new Managing
Director. In addition, the Forum announced the election of Mark
Enstrom, Product Manager of BroadSoft, Inc. and Richard Shockey,
Director of Technical Staff of NeuStar, Inc. to the SIP Forum Board of
Directors.

The addition of these individuals complements an already
prestigious Board of Directors, which includes Chris Gatch, CTO of
Cbeyond; Steven J. Johnson, CEO of Ingate Systems; David Oran, Fellow
at Cisco Systems; Anwar Siddiqui, Member, CTO Office at Avaya; and
Robert Sparks, VP of Research and Development at Estacado Systems.

As the new SIP Forum Chairman, Eric Burger brings a wealth of
knowledge and experience to the SIP Forum management team. Over the
years, Dr. Burger has made numerous contributions on protocols to the
IETF (including SIP, SIPPING, SIMPLE, LEMONADE, SPEECHSC, VPIM) and
markup to the W3C (VoiceXML, CCXML, and MSCML.) He is the inventor of
the Applications and Services Infrastructure concept, bringing the web
development paradigm to telephony applications. Service providers,
application developers and equipment manufacturers have since adopted
SIP+XML as one of the motivations to moving to a SIP-based real-time
communications infrastructure.

"Over the last ten years the SIP industry has grown substantially
with companies such as BEA Systems and a sizeable ecosystem of NEPs,
SIs and ISVs participating in interoperability tests globally," said
Dr. Burger. "SIP interoperability is critical to the success of
next-generation communications, and the technical initiatives we're
spearheading at the SIP Forum aim to promote SIP interoperability to
benefit both service providers and the corporate network."

As the new SIP Forum Managing Director and President of SIP Forum
LLC (the operational, U.S.-based subsidiary of the Swedish-based SIP
Forum), Marc Robins is in a unique position to leverage his years of
experience as an advocate and champion of new IP communications
technologies and their commercial applications. Currently the Chief
Technology Evangelism Officer of Robins Consulting Group
(www.robinsconsult.com), Mr. Robins has been continuously involved in
the telecommunications industry as a reporter and analyst, editor and
author, trade show producer and magazine publisher, and marketing
executive and consultant for more than 25 years.

"Over the years, I have followed the work of the SIP Forum, and
consider it to be one of the leading industry organizations for
advancing the "state-of-the-art-and-science" of IP communications
technology and a vital proponent of standardization and
interoperability," said Mr. Robins. "I am honored to have been
selected as the new Managing Director of the SIP Forum, and I look
forward to working with the Board of Directors on making the SIP Forum
an even more essential industry organization and serving the Forum
membership through a variety of new marketing, technical, educational
and communications programs."

Mark Enstrom brings to the board almost 14 years of experience in
the industry, including roles in systems engineering, product line
management and product/field marketing. Before joining the marketing
team at BroadSoft, he led the effort to define and document the
company's SIP Trunking solution, which is now BroadSoft's fastest
growing application. As BroadSoft's representative to the SIP Forum,
Mark is also active with the SIPconnect Certification Committee and
helped launch the SIPconnect Compliance Program.

"BroadSoft made an early commitment to the SIP Forum and the
organization's goal of establishing SIPconnect as the industry
standard for interoperability between leading service providers and IP
PBXs," said Mr. Enstrom. "I am proud to assume my board member duties
in BroadSoft's ongoing commitment to the SIP Forum, and look forward
to helping promote SIPconnect as the de facto standard for SIP
Trunking."

Richard Shockey is a Director and Member of the Technical Staff
for NeuStar, Inc., which provides a number of critical services to the
communications industry including the administration of all telephone
numbers in North America, management of the wireline and wireless
Number Portability Administration, number pooling and OSS products for
carriers. Mr. Shockey is a founder and has been Co-Chair of the IETF
ENUM Work Group for many years and is an author of several IETF RFCs
and numerous articles on Next Generation Network technologies for
various publications.

"I'm delighted to join the Board of Directors of the SIP Forum,"
said Mr. Shockey. "With SIP now deploying in telecommunications
networks worldwide, I look forward to working the Board to continue
innovative programs such as SIPconnect and SIPconnect Compliant to
extend the benefits of SIP end to end in both enterprise and service
provider markets."
