FACTBOX: Quotes from New Hampshire primary candidates
(Reuters) - Republican Sen. John McCain and Democratic Sen. Hillary Clinton won their parties' primaries in New Hampshire on Tuesday, an early battleground in the state-by-state process of picking candidates for the November U.S. presidential election.
Here are some key quotes.
HILLARY CLINTON, DEMOCRAT, NEW YORK SENATOR:
"I want, especially, to thank New Hampshire. Over the last week, I listened to you and in the process I found my own voice. I felt like we all spoke from our hearts and I am so gratified that you responded. Now together, let's give America the kind of comeback that New Hampshire has just given me."
JOHN MCCAIN, REPUBLICAN, ARIZONA SENATOR:
"I'm past the age when I can claim the noun 'kid' no matter what adjective precedes it. But tonight we sure showed them what a comeback looks like."
BARACK OBAMA, DEMOCRAT, ILLINOIS SENATOR:
"I'm still fired up and ready to go. Well first of all I want to congratulate Senator Clinton on a hard-fought victory here in New Hampshire. She did an outstanding job -- give her a big round of applause."
MITT ROMNEY, REPUBLICAN, FORMER MASSACHUSETTS GOVERNOR:
"Another silver. There've been three races so far. I've got two silvers and one gold -- thank you Wyoming. But tonight, congratulations go to Senator John McCain for running a first-class race. Congratulations on the gold, senator ... I know we'd rather have it. They did a good job and out-competed us."
JOHN EDWARDS, DEMOCRAT, FORMER NORTH CAROLINA SENATOR: "I'm in this race until we have actually restored the American dream and strengthen and restore the middle class of America and so I ask all of you here and all of you who can hear the sound of my voice, that 99 percent, whose voices have not yet been heard in this democracy can join us in this grassroots campaign to create the kind of America that all of us believe in."
MIKE HUCKABEE, REPUBLICAN, FORMER ARKANSAS GOVERNOR:
"In Michigan, in South Carolina, in Florida in the next three days. What you helped us continue will be carried right on through, and it won't be too long (before) we're going to be able to secure this nomination and onto the White House and onto leading America."
FRED THOMPSON, REPUBLICAN, FORMER TENNESSEE SENATOR (On Fox):
"South Carolina is the gateway to the rest of the country. These elections are not decided in two or three locations. They're decided in the rest of the country. And the South and the West and the rest of the Midwest gets to participate, too ... I will stake my ground in South Carolina."
RUDY GIULIANI, REPUBLICAN, FORMER NEW YORK MAYOR:
"This is just the beginning. Think of it as the kickoff. This is the kickoff in what's going to be a very long and very tough game, but one that we're going to come out, and by the time it's over with -- by February 5th -- it's going to be clear that we're going to be the nominee of the party."
RON PAUL, REPUBLICAN, TEXAS CONGRESSMAN
"I knew we were making progress when I realized how many people found us on the Internet. That's been very exciting ... But, you know, the other thing that has been tremendously exciting for me -- you know, I've talked about several policies. The number-one policy, of course, is individual liberty and our Constitution."
