TEANECK, N.J.--(Business Wire)--Entrepreneur magazine's annual "Franchise 500" issue recognizes
Kumon, the world's largest after-school education company, as the
leading franchise in the tutoring industry. This marks the seventh
consecutive year Kumon earns the number one ranking.

"The trend of becoming an entrepreneur in education is
burgeoning," says Deven Klein, vice president of Kumon franchising.
"Many of our franchisees leave the corporate world for a rewarding
career to help children and their communities."

Tutoring is a widespread option for an increasing number of
families in the United States. In the past five years, the average
Kumon Center enrollment increased 55 percent, and overall, the company
has 80,000 more U.S. students than in 2002.

"The hike in enrollment reconfirms Kumon's distinct position in
the marketplace," says Klein. "Parents are looking to Kumon to
supplement the school curriculum and provide reinforcement of
fundamental skills."

In 2007, Kumon signed 84 franchise agreements, which is a 13
percent raise from the prior year's number. Kumon currently has 1,280
centers in the United States, and according to Klein, the company
plans to open 120 more in 2008.
