UPDATE 1-Mexico retailers Dec same-store sales down 0.2 pct

MEXICO CITY Jan 14 (Reuters) - Mexican retailers group ANTAD said on Monday its members' same-store sales fell 0.2 percent in December, reflecting weak consumption in a month marked by aggressive Christmas sales and credit promotions.

Same-store sales, a key performance gauge for stores that have been open for at least 12 months, rose 5.5 percent in December 2006.

Supermarkets, restaurants and department stores had a rough ride in 2007, hurt by declining remittances from Mexicans living in the United States and by a cooling local economy.

The National Association of Retailers, or ANTAD, has Wal-Mart de Mexico (WALMEXV.MX), Soriana (SORIANAB.MX) and Comercial Mexicana (COMEUBC.MX) among its key members.

Last week, the newly appointed chairman of ANTAD, Jose Manuel Sanchez, forecast same-store sales this year would rise only 1 percent, the same as in 2007. (Reporting by Cyntia Barrera Diaz, editing by Maureen Bavdek)
