Jan 14 (Reuters) - Online media company PlanetOut Inc LGBT.O said it is evaluating strategic alternatives, including a possible sale of the company.

The company said it will no longer provide quarterly or annual earnings outlook and will not hold quarterly earnings calls.

It will report its results through its periodic filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

PlanetOut, which has been reporting a loss for the last seven quarters, said it retained Allen & Co LLC to assist it in evaluating alternatives.

San Francisco, California-based PlanetOut, which went public in 2004, maintains a number of Web sites serving the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. (Reporting by Manish Gupta in Bangalore; Editing by Gopakumar Warrier and Vinu Pilakkott)
