Operation Homefront Elects CDW-G's Brig. General John Howard (Ret.) to Serve on National Board of Directors
Howard Brings Years of Military Experience to New Role with
Operation Homefront's Policy Committee
VERNON HILLS, Ill.--(Business Wire)--CDW Government, Inc. (CDW-G), a wholly owned subsidiary of CDW
Corporation and leading source of Information Technology (IT)
solutions to governments and educators, today announced that Operation
Homefront has elected Brig. General John Howard (Ret.), DOD business
development manager for CDW-G, to its national board of directors.
Howard, who is the first retired general officer to join the board,
will serve as a member of Operation Homefront's policy committee,
which drives public awareness of the organization's efforts to aid
military families nationwide.
"As an organization committed to supporting the U.S. military
community, Operation Homefront values the input of service members at
every level of leadership," said Amy Palmer, vice president of
operations for Operation Homefront. "Brig. General Howard provides us
with a rare combination - a proven commitment to armed forces
philanthropy and an unmatched knowledge of both the military and
civilian sectors of government. His unique perspective will be a
valuable asset as we expand the scope of our efforts into 2008 and
beyond."
In his new role with Operation Homefront's policy committee,
Howard will help shape the organization's public policy initiatives
and increase cooperation with its associated military coalitions. He
also will serve as a principal consultant to the congressional
advisory board, comprised of serving members of Congress who enhance
awareness of Operation Homefront's mission among key members of the
Federal government.
Howard's election to the board of directors follows several
successful partnerships between CDW-G and Operation Homefront. In
2007, the organizations joined forces to present 230 refurbished
computers to junior enlisted military families at Fort Bliss, Texas
and Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The computers, equipped with high-speed
internet capabilities, provide a way for military families to stay in
touch with loved ones serving overseas.
"After serving two tours of duty in Vietnam, I appreciate
first-hand the benefit of enabling soldiers to stay in touch with
their families back home," said Brig. General John Howard (Ret.), DOD
business development manager for CDW-G. "Joining Operation Homefront's
board of directors provides me with the perfect opportunity to support
an organization committed to aiding the families of our men and women
in uniform."
About Operation Homefront
What is today Operation Homefront began in 2001 as a military
spouse-generated idea. In response to the shortcoming of support for
the families of deployed service members, CinCHouse.com members
(military wives and women in uniform) created the project that has
evolved into a major nonprofit charity serving 26 military communities
in 25 states. Today CinCHouse.com operates as a program as part of the
nonprofit Operation Homefront family. From a good idea, to a great
organization, Operation Homefront understands and takes care of the
needs of the military community. For more information, please visit
