Internationally-recognized leader on environmental policy joins board of
world's first all-plastic pallet pool with embedded RFID tags
ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Intelligent Global Pooling Systems
(iGPS Company LLC), operator of the world's first RFID-tagged, all-plastic
pallet pool, announced today that Terry Tamminen, former Secretary of the
California EPA, has joined the company's Board of Directors.
"Terry enjoys an unmatched commitment to and reputation for sound
environmental policy -- and real action -- around the world," said Bob Moore,
CEO of iGPS. "His breadth of knowledge, worldwide relationships and current
activities in the area of sustainability will be invaluable to us as we
continue to grow the supply chain's premier, environmentally friendly pallet
pooling system."
Tamminen's environmental activism began in the early 1990's when he
founded the Santa Monica BayKeeper organization. His dynamism and thought
leadership led Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to appoint Tamminen Secretary of
the California Environmental Protection Agency in November, 2003, and Cabinet
Secretary, the chief policy advisor to the Governor, in December 2004. He
continues to advise the Governor on energy and environmental policy, and
serves as an advisor to several other governors and environmental
organizations. Tamminen is the author of several books on environmental
policy, is a sought-after international lecturer on climate change and energy
issues and has received numerous awards and honors for his achievements. He
was just recognized by the UK Guardian, as "One of the 50 People Who Could
Save the Planet."
Tamminen is currently the Director of the New America Foundation's Climate
Policy Program in Washington, D.C. The program, which was launched in March
2007, focuses on designing and implementing a national response to climate
change by aggregating the action of state and local governments around the
world.
iGPS's pallets provide users with substantial benefits: a 30 percent
weight reduction vs. wood, leading to substantial savings in transport; the
end of splinters and protruding nails that lead to worker injuries and damaged
equipment; and, thanks to embedded RFID tags, the ability to track and trace
shipments across the supply chain.
Additionally, the shift from wood to plastic pallets is environmentally
responsible. iGPS plastic pallets are 100 percent recyclable and, because
they are 30 percent lighter than pallets made of wood, could remove several
billion pounds of non-value freight from the shipping and supply-chain
infrastructure, resulting in huge potential fuel savings.
