Company Granted First and Only Patent for Data Loss Prevention
DENVER, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Vericept Corporation, the leading provider
of data loss prevention (DLP) solutions, today announced that it has been
awarded a U.S. Patent (Patent No.7,315,891) by the U.S. Patent and Trademark
office for its technology used for Data Loss Prevention. The patent covers
core technology relating to data loss prevention systems and methods involved
in providing key fundamental features to enterprise class data loss prevention
solutions.
"We are very pleased to have been awarded this honor and the acceptance of
this patent further validates Vericept's position as the industry leader and
pioneer of technology used in today's enterprise class data loss prevention
products," said Dave Parkinson, President and CEO of Vericept Corporation.
"This clearly differentiates Vericept from other DLP vendors in the market
place and reinforces our technology leadership nearly two years prior to other
providers currently in the space."
About Vericept's Data Loss Prevention Patent
Vericept's patent embodies nearly every major feature of data loss
prevention products available on the market today. The patent's unique
qualities include: the creation of categories or policies, content detection
capabilities, content aware policy, data in motion analysis and detailed
reporting of compliance events. Vericept's patented techniques provide the
ability to:
Create Content Monitoring Policies for Compliance or Acceptable Use -
Vericept's patent provides for the exclusive use of utilizing keywords and
regular expressions to build monitoring policies for compliance or acceptable
use. Patented policy construction also combines these keyword and regular
expressions in ways that minimize false positives while at the same time
maximizing analysis speed.
Monitor LAN, WAN and TCP/IP Communications - Vericept's patent provides
for the exclusive use to monitor TCP/IP communications on a LAN or WAN for the
purpose of compliance monitoring. Modern enterprise communications make heavy
use of TCP/IP LAN and WAN communications and an enterprise class DLP solution
must include the ability to monitor TCP/IP communications on a LAN or a WAN.
Provide Detailed Reporting Of Compliance Violations - Vericept's patent
provides for the exclusive use to display portions of a compliance violation
including the network address of the system violating compliance and the
network users involved with the violation. When reporting the details of a
compliance violation, an enterprise DLP system must provide the ability for a
reviewer to quickly validate the violation, identify computing systems
involved with the violation, and accurately identify the individuals involved
in the violation.
According to a recent report by 451 Group, "With its granted patent,
Vericept is able to claim technical efficacy while opening licensing and other
revenue opportunities in the near to mid-term," said Nick Selby, Director of
Research Operations & Research Director, Enterprise Security.
