Online event launches in the birthplace of speed dating
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- WooMe (http://www.woome.com), the
fastest-growing online introductions platform, today announced that it will
host the largest speed dating event in Los Angeles, on Thursday, January 24
from 8 - 12 p.m. PST. The online event, which is expected to attract
thousands of users from the Southern California area, will be free to everyone
who registers on the site at: http://www.woome.com.
Traditional offline speed dating began in Los Angeles in the late nineties
when Rabbi Yaacov Deyo invented the format as a way for young Jewish singles
to meet and find a partner. Now, almost 10 years later, WooMe brings the
still popular concept to the Internet allowing people to easily meet by simply
using their web cams and microphones to engage in fast and fun 60-second speed
introductions
"WooMe brings speed dating to the 21st century. Now people in LA don't
have to leave their houses to meet new people live," said Stephen Stokols, CEO
and co-founder of the Los Angeles-based company. "WooMe's revolutionary way
of meeting new people has exploded across 148 countries so it's only natural
that we bring speed dating back home for the biggest event ever."
WooMe was created because Stokol's younger sister Haley (who lives in LA)
and her friends were frustrated at how difficult it was to meet people through
traditional dating sites, social networks, and offline dating events. Stokols
realized that they could bring the offline speed-dating craze online by
leveraging the latest in-browser video technologies, to offer a truly
interactive way to see, hear, and meet people.
"First impressions really matter," added Stokols. "Studies suggest that
people know in 15 seconds or less if they click with somebody. WooMe lets
people meet 5 people in minutes, simply with the click of a button."
Registration is always free on the site but users are charged a small fee
if there is mutual interest from both parties and they decide to "woo" each
other. WooMe is waiving the fee for this special event.
