Commercial and Patent Litigation Firm Continues Expansion into National
Practice

NEW YORK, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The Texas-based law firm of McKool
Smith, P.C., is announcing the opening of a new office in New York, and the
addition of veteran intellectual property trial attorney Robert A. Cote to
lead the office.
The firm's New York office is another step in the firm's expansion outside
of Texas. In September 2007, the firm established an office in Washington,
D.C., home to the International Trade Commission. At the time, McKool Smith
added D.C.-based ITC veterans Rodney Sweetland and Mike McManus to oversee the
firm's growing Section 337 patent litigation practice. In New York, McKool
Smith will continue the firm's focus on commercial and intellectual property
litigation.
"Our new office in New York will build upon the firm's national litigation
and trial practice," says firm founder Mike McKool. "Robert is a first-chair
intellectual property trial lawyer with an impressive track record. He
further expands the depth of McKool Smith's patent litigation and trial
capabilities, and we're excited that he's joined our firm."
Mr. Cote moves to McKool Smith from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe's New
York office, where he was an IP litigation partner. He has represented
clients in intellectual property matters in courts across the country. Mr.
Cote is a frequent lecturer and noted authority on patent litigation. He also
serves as host of the New IP Economy conference series. Like many other
attorneys at McKool Smith, Mr. Cote holds a degree in electrical engineering.
"McKool Smith has become the number one Go-To firm for patent enforcement
and is selected to handle more patent assertion cases than any other firm in
the country," says Mr. Cote. "McKool Smith is also a top IP defense firm,
reflecting its integrity and the high caliber of its work on both sides of the
docket."
McKool Smith has more than 90 attorneys handling commercial and
intellectual property litigation for national and international clients,
including Fortune 500 companies, universities, start-ups, and individuals.
The firm is recognized as one of the premier litigation and trial firms in the
United States, having earned significant courtroom victories for clients such
as Electronic Data Systems, BearingPoint, Ericsson, Cisco Systems, Medtronic
Inc. and National Instruments.
Says Mr. Cote, "The firm offers a unique platform, enabling attorneys to
represent both plaintiffs and defendants. It also affords me an opportunity
to work side-by-side with a number of the nation's top jury trial lawyers,
including Sam Baxter at the firm's Marshall office in the Eastern District of
Texas. I'm also impressed that the firm boasts many Federal Circuit clerks
and a deep patent litigation bench in a broad range of technologies."
"McKool Smith's limited conflicts and its culture of managed risk are also
major selling points," says Mr. Cote. "The firm enables attorneys to take on
significant patent assertion programs for clients and to offer result-oriented
and other flexible fee arrangements tailored to the client's needs."
McKool Smith's new office is located at 399 Park Ave., Suite 3200, New
York, NY 10022. The office can be reached at 212-402-9400 or toll free at
