BRIGHTON, Mich., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Denise Bertin-Epp, President of Brighton Hospital, announced today that the nationally recognized addiction treatment facility has formed an eight member Brighton National Addiction Foundation. The mission of this newly created, IRS approved foundation is to fight addiction throughout the nation by fund raising to support the highest standards of practice in prevention, treatment, aftercare, and addiction research programs conducted by Brighton Hospital. The BNAF will advance this mission primarily through philanthropic relationship management and cultivation with donors and grant makers. Brighton Hospital is the second oldest alcohol and chemical dependency treatment provider in the country and the first to be licensed in Michigan. "Brighton Hospital has had strong relationships with families throughout the United States and Canada for many years," comments Richard Kramer, president of the Brighton National Addiction Foundation. "These relationships, built on the importance of effective 12-step recovery programs and innovative treatments of these chronic diseases, are vital to the continual success of the hospital. We are happy to announce the formation of this board that will direct our philanthropic relationships," stated Kramer. "We plan to grow our Foundation board on a national basis in 2008 and beyond." Joseph G. Nuyen, Jr., JD, Chairman of the Foundation states, "We are excited to announce that Brighton Hospital has formed the National Addiction Foundation. We have a strong team of dedicated and experienced board members that are focused on helping the thousands of people who come to Brighton Hospital in need every year." The newly elected Brighton National Addiction Foundation is comprised of the following individuals: Joseph G. Nuyen, Jr., JD, Chair; Richard L. Kramer, President; Susan Moray Karr; William M. Kuhn; Earl LaFave; Mary M. Lyneis, JD; Jeffrey G. Mark; Anita Penta. Dedicated to the mission of Brighton Hospital, one of America's oldest and most experienced addiction treatment facilities, the Brighton National Addiction Foundation offers ways for individuals, corporations and grant makers to invest in Brighton's national leadership. Gifts, grants and bequests to the Foundation make it possible for Brighton Hospital to continue to be a nationally innovative source of hope through prevention, patient care, aftercare, education and research. Donations to the Brighton National Addiction Foundation assist in building and expanding health care facilities, helping patients who need added days of rehabilitation, providing continuing education opportunities for patient care staff, and assisting with clinical and outcomes research programs. The hospital is widely recognized for its establishment, in 2006, of America's first fellowship training programs for physicians based in a clinical setting. Brighton Hospital, a member of St. John Health, continues to be a standard-bearer and innovator in chemical dependency treatment based on the medical model and 12-step program participation. Brighton Hospital is a fully licensed and accredited acute care hospital and is staffed by addiction-medicine physicians and addiction-credentialed clinicians.
