American Pie Council Encourages Pie Lovers to 'Pay It Forward'
CHICAGO, Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Pie Council (APC) and its
members are encouraging all Americans to celebrate National Pie Day's 25th
anniversary on January 23rd by performing random acts of pieness. APC's call
to action is an effort to have pie lovers "pay it forward" by spreading
goodwill through sharing pie with loved ones and strangers alike.
"The great tradition of pie has a way of invoking childhood memories of
warm feelings and the closeness of sharing with others that makes everyone
feel good," said Linda Hoskins, APC's executive director. "Why not pass that
special feeling onto others? Get two pies when you're at the grocery store --
one to enjoy with your family and one to give to the person behind you in
line. Bring a pie to a new neighbor and get to know each other over a slice
of pie. Or you can say 'thank you' to someone with a warm hug wrapped in a
delicious crust."

companies across the country:

determine Michigan's Best Apple Pie. The winners will receive $500
and a free trip to Florida to compete in the American Pie
Council/Crisco National Pie Championships in April.

of pie through a downloadable online coupon. Beginning January 18,
coupons will be available at http://www.celebratepie.com.

four-recipe pie brochure to amateur and commercial pie bakers and
baking schools across the country.
-- Cyrus O'Leary's Pies of Airway Heights, Wash., will bake pies with

The company will also participate in random acts of pieness by handing

National Pie Day is not the only way to celebrate the goodness of pie this
year. The 2008 Great American Pie Festival will be held April 19-20 in
Celebration, Fla., and will feature countless pie varieties and a never-ending
pie buffet. It will be held in conjunction with the APC/Crisco(R) National
Pie Championships, where commercial, professional, junior chef and amateur
pie-makers will compete to earn the title of America's best pie.
The American Pie Council is the only organization committed to maintaining
America's pie heritage, passing on the tradition of pie-making and promoting
America's love affair with pie. The APC offers personal, professional and
