E.ON UK CEO sees long-term rise in home fuel bills
LONDON |
LONDON Jan 22 (Reuters) - British households face a long-term rise in energy bills to cover the cost of reducing carbon emissions to fight climate change, the chief executive of E.ON UK EONG.DE said on Tuesday.
Paul Golby also said the group was interested in participating in "more than one" new nuclear power station, while windpower would be the main focus of a 1 billion pound ($1.95 billion) investment programme in low-carbon energy over the next five years.
"The time of a cheap energy world is over," he told Reuters. "We are moving into a more expensive energy world going forward."
He declined to comment on gas and electricity pricing in the near term, but said: "Clearly we are looking at pricing. Like everyone, we're affected by rising commodity prices. When we come to a conclusion we'll tell people." (Reporting by Pete Harrison, editing by Will Waterman)
