                          Transfer of Treasury Shares                          

Spectris plc announces that on 22 January 2008, the following ordinary shares
have been transferred from treasury stock for the purposes of employee share
option allotments under the Spectris Savings Related Share Option Scheme:

185 shares at 408 pence per share

Following the above transfer, the total number of Spectris plc ordinary shares
in issue (excluding the total of 9,038,065 ordinary shares now held in
treasury) is 115,967,058.
