U.S. Conference of Mayors to Present NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg With
President's Award for Leadership on Global Climate Protection

Washington, DC -- During the United States Conference of Mayors 76th
Annual Winter meeting in Washington, DC, Conference President Trenton (NJ)
Mayor Douglas H. Palmer will present an award to New York Mayor Michael
Bloomberg for his leadership on global climate protection.
    The Conference of Mayors President's Award was first established to
recognize a mayor for leadership on issues that are national in scope, ranging
from crime reduction to education to environmental protection.
Mayor Bloomberg will be honored specifically for his leadership on the
international priority of climate protection. His plan for New York City sets
a new standard for action by cities throughout the world - a 30 percent
reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.  With its 127 separate
initiatives, PlaNYC strives to make New York City among the world's most
sustainable cities.

    Where:  National Building Museum, Washington, DC

    More than 700 guests including mayors from cities nationwide are expected
to attend the dinner and awards presentation at the National Building Museum,
all part of the Conference's 3-day Winter Meeting. Earlier on Wednesday
afternoon prior to the award presentation, climate protection will also be the
main focus of the plenary session of the meeting, which will be primarily held
at the Capitol Hilton Hotel located at 16th and K.
    Media planning to cover any portion of the meeting including the awards
