DULUTH, Ga., Jan. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Wegener Corporation
(Nasdaq: WGNR), a leading provider of equipment for television, audio and data
distribution networks worldwide, today announced the availability of WEGENER's
SMD-515 set top boxes within Conklin's integrated solution offering to support
IPTV services.
"We are happy to offer WEGENER's high-quality, reliable set top box as
part of our IPTV solution," stated David Hunt of Conklin-Intracom. "This
partnership enhances our portfolio offering to clients. The SMD-515 and SMD-
515-PVR are an integral part of the first MPEG-4, HD & PVR commercial
deployments in North America."
Conklin-Intracom's fs|cdn(TM) solution leverages the interactive
capabilities of next generation communications networks to enable IPTV
services and cutting-edge on-screen applications. The result is a superior
quality of service to the end user. The fs|cdn solution employs a unique
architecture enabling elegant, cost-efficient scaling from 100 to 100,000s of
end-users. An integrated packetization, middleware and conditional access
system enables telco operators to rapidly launch new video services through a
single vendor.
WEGENER offers the SMD-515 for commercial IPTV services through a
partnership with Conklin-Intracom. WEGENER's SMD-515 IPTV set top box
supports MPEG-4/h.264 and MPEG-2 decoding in standard definition and high
definition video formats with optional digital video recording capability.
"To quickly launch billable video services, such as HD video, video-on-
demand, subscription-based video channels, and PVR capabilities, Conklin's
innovative solution combines key software packages," stated Ned Mountain,
President and COO of WEGENER. "Integrating hardware, middleware and security
software reduces the number of vendors with which an operator must
collaborate, making it a great solution for small and mid-sized telcos. This
subset of the telco market is forecasted to serve more than one million IPTV
subscribers by 2009."
WEGENER SMD-515 set top boxes supporting Conklin-Intracom's fs|cdn
solution are currently being used in field trials by 5 telco operators in
North America.
