Muhammad Yunus will speak about the potential of microcredit to an audience of
The Chicago Council on Global Affairs on Tuesday, January 22. The event has
sold out, with more than 1,000 people registered to attend.

As founder of Grameen Bank, Muhammad Yunus pioneered microcredit, the
innovative banking program that provides poor people -- mainly women -- with
small loans they use to launch businesses and lift their families out of
poverty. Yunus and Grameen Bank won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for their
efforts in this area. In the past thirty years, microcredit has spread to
every continent and benefited more than 100 million families. Now, Yunus -- in
partnership with some of the world's most visionary business leaders -- has
launched the world's first purposely designed social businesses.

Muhammad Yunus was born in Chittagong, Bangladesh and educated at Dhaka
University and Vanderbilt University. He then served as chairman of the
economics department at Chittagong University before devoting his life to
providing financial and social services to the poorest of the poor. His newest
book Creating a World without Poverty: How Social Business Can Transform Our
Lives, will be available for purchase and signing at the event.

The Chicago Council's Global Tomorrow Forum celebrates pioneering leaders and
their unique approaches to influencing global affairs. Working outside
traditional government channels, business and religious leaders,
philanthropists, social activists, and media personalities are tackling tough
global challenges and making major contributions to the advancement of
society. The Global Tomorrow Forum highlights these innovative leaders'
efforts to changing the world
