Apple Student Gallery Hosts Competition
LOS ANGELES--(Business Wire)--WIRED SCIENCE, the fast-paced PBS science and technology series
produced by KCET/Los Angeles in association with WIRED magazine,
transfers its energy to the web during its first-season hiatus with
the January 2008 launch of the WIRED SCIENCE Student Video Contest
hosted by Apple Student Gallery, the web's premier collection of
student-produced digital media projects. The online video competition
calls for student innovators and experimenters in grades 9-12 to
explore a scientific principle and create a short video. Anything
science-related will qualify--from a math formula or a chemistry
equation to a law of physics. For complete details, please visit
www.PBS.org/wiredscience.

In the spirit of the show, judges are looking for creativity,
originality and humor. Students are reminded to be safe and may enlist
the help of their teachers. Three cash prizes will be awarded, with
first place winning $2,000. Registration for the contest closes March
15, 2008; submissions will be accepted through April 1.

"Many of tomorrow's advances and innovations will be created by
today's students," says Jackie Kain, KCET vice president of New Media
and the web site's executive producer. "We hope students will have fun
with it, get creative and ignite their passion for discovery and
experimentation. They can share their work with their peers, possibly
help educators who might be interested in showing some of these videos
in class, and just maybe win some cash in the process."

The top 20 finalist videos will be posted to pbs.org and in the
Apple Student Gallery. Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of
judges, including experts from the WIRED SCIENCE blog, Correlations,
the WIRED SCIENCE panel of advisors led by science educator Michael
Lampert of West Salem High School, and editors from WIRED magazine,
the first word on science and technology for the last 15 years.

   Continuously updated, www.pbs.org/wiredscience offers streaming
video of the entire first season, available on-demand; web-original
content, including videos, photos, and essays; an extensive
educational component for educators and students, showcasing featured
teachers and students; and Correlations, a group blog composed of
scientists, show hosts and producers. Jackie Kain is executive
producer of WIRED SCIENCE Digital, the web component of WIRED SCIENCE.
