Newcomer eXpresso(TM) Paces World's Top Tech Companies With 'Best Of' Honors
From PC World, InfoWorld
Pioneering SaaS Solution Allows Businesspeople to Collaborate On Excel
Spreadsheets Via Internet; Thousands of Users Sign Up in First Six Months
MENLO PARK, Calif., Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- It's not often that a new
technology, fresh from its product launch, is ranked among such industry
wunderkinds as Facebook, the Amazon Kindle, Apple's iPhone and the One Laptop
Per Child "$100 laptop" initiative. This month it happened ... twice.
In the past two weeks, eXpresso(TM), a new Software as a Service (SaaS)
solution that lets people collaborate in real-time on Excel spreadsheets via
the Internet, received "Best Of" honors from both PC World and InfoWorld
magazines. Recipient of InfoWorld's 2008 "Technology of the Year" award in
the Applications and Middleware category, eXpresso was also named one of PC
World's 25 Most Innovative Products of the Year -- an honor shared in large
part by mega-companies like Apple, Google, HP, Toshiba and Kodak. eXpresso
was also one of the only non-hardware entries to make the list.
"While these PC World and InfoWorld awards are terrific honors for
eXpresso, they also speak to the maturation of Software as a Service as a
rock-solid method for delivering practical business services," said George
Langan, chief executive officer of eXpresso. "It's interesting to note our
company did not apply for these awards. Critics and editors are looking hard
at SaaS providers because they understand the real benefits SaaS solutions can
bring to worker productivity."
In the review accompanying its award, InfoWorld points out that eXpresso
treats spreadsheets as an enterprise resource. It states that eXpresso "not
only brings document management to spreadsheet-based workgroups, but jumps
past basic file versioning solutions by adding considerable community features
including chat and simultaneous editing -- all without an IT admin lifting a
finger."
The InfoWorld summary points out that eXpresso is a less expensive, and
easier to use, alternative to the collaborative features of Microsoft Office
SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007. Its auditing capabilities also surpass free
services like Google Docs & Spreadsheets.
PC World, in its comments, said, "In a nutshell, eXpresso is delivering
today what Microsoft has promised that its Office suite will do in the
future."
