NEW YORK, Jan. 22, 2008 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Millennium Promise and Tyson Foods,
Inc. (NYSE:TSN) today announced their collaboration in the fight against poverty
by launching a six-month corporate service fellowship.
Tyson is loaning Millennium Promise, an international non-profit organization
dedicated to ending extreme poverty, the skills and energies of an experienced
corporate executive for six months.
Jenise Huffman, an executive for Tyson, will use her management and strategic
development skills to assist Millennium Promise. The New York-based group works
to make real change in the lives of the more than one billion people worldwide
struggling to survive on less than $1 a day. Its efforts include providing
communities stricken with hunger, disease, inadequate education, and an absence
of essential infrastructure, with the tools needed to become self-sustainable.
"We are thrilled to be partnering with Tyson Foods in this way, and applaud the
company for creating the opportunity for a corporate executive to connect with
an organization working to make global change," said Jeffrey Flug, CEO and
Executive Director of Millennium Promise. "Through her experiences and training
at Tyson, Jenise Huffman is uniquely qualified to help our organization position
itself to eliminate extreme poverty, hunger and disease."
"It's an honor to help support the important work of Millennium Promise," said
Archie Schaffer, senior vice president of External Relations for Tyson. "The
service Jenise will provide will be an extension of our ongoing commitment in
the fight against hunger."
Since 2000, Tyson donated $3 million and more than 49 million pounds of chicken,
beef and pork products to more than 600 hunger-relief agencies nationwide.
