Old Newsboys' Goodfellow Fund of Detroit Has REACHED and EXCEEDED ITS GOAL of
$1.375 Million
DETROIT, Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- As of today, the Old Newsboys' Goodfellow
Fund of Detroit has reached its 2007 fundraising goal of $1.375 million, in
fact raising $1,387,833 which is nearly $13,000 over the goal.
"We never lost hope of reaching our goal and again we thank the generous
public that always comes through for us," said Peter W. Waldmeir, president of
the Detroit Goodfellows. "Every penny of the money raised goes directly to
our programs that benefit needy children in Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland
Park. We're grateful that in our history, the public has never failed to help
us in our mission to make sure there's 'No Kiddie Without a Christmas.'"
The money raised by the Detroit Goodfellows goes to support the non-
profit's various programs benefiting Detroit-area children including:
-- 30,000 Christmas gift boxes distributed to children aged 4-13 in need
in Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park. The gift boxes contain warm
clothes, books, candy and toys. Additionally, 12,000 dolls are
distributed with the gift boxes to girls aged 5-11
-- Emergency dental program for children administered through UofD Mercy
-- Free shoes to children (in conjunction with Mr. Alan's Shoes)
-- Scholarships to Wayne State University
-- Summer camps for children in need
Founded in 1914, the Old Newsboys' Goodfellow Fund of Detroit is the
original and oldest Goodfellow organization and is not affiliated with any
