NEW YORK, Jan. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The China Fund, Inc.
(NYSE: CHN) announces distributions of $12.12 per share are payable on January
25, 2008. As previously reported, distributions are payable to stockholders
of record on December 21, 2007 with an ex-dividend date of December 19, 2007.
The distribution is comprised of long-term capital gains of $9.00 per share,
short-term capital gains of $2.84 per share and net investment income of $0.28
per share.
The distributions will be paid in the Fund's common stock; however,
stockholders had the option to request that their distributions be paid in
cash in lieu of common stock. Requests for cash distributions had to be
received by the Fund by January 17, 2008. The aggregate amount of cash
distributions to all stockholders was limited to 30% of the aggregate dollar
amount of the total distributions, that is, $52,998,194.10. Because cash
distribution requests exceeded this limit, the Fund will pro rate the cash
distribution among all stockholders who made such requests. Stockholders who
requested cash distributions will receive 52.13% of their distributions in
cash and will receive the balance in the Fund's common stock. The common
stock to be distributed will be valued at $34.56 per share, which was the
stock's closing price on the New York Stock Exchange on January 18, 2008.

Altman Group at 1-888-CHN-CALL (246-2255). In addition, the Fund has posted
