French EDF aims at developing in four countries: CEO
PARIS |
PARIS (Reuters) - French power group EDF (EDF.PA) hopes to share its nuclear expertise with China, South Africa, Britain and the United States, the company's head said on Thursday.
"I am convinced that nuclear will develop in some countries, not in every country," Pierre Gadonneix told CNBC from the Davos Summit, adding EDF's size and experience meant the French group had "clearly something to bring".
State-owned EDF is the world's largest nuclear power company, operating 58 nuclear reactors in France.
"We have chosen to invest first in countries which already have a nuclear experience. The countries we have identified are China, South Africa, Britain and the United States. We think these are the countries were there are development opportunities in the short term," he added.
Earlier this month, Britain gave the go-ahead to a new generation of nuclear power stations, while South African power utility Eskom has recently invited international companies to submit bids to build a new nuclear power station.
