CHICAGO Feb 5 (Reuters) - New York Sen. Hillary Clinton won the Missouri Democratic primary on Tuesday, defeating rival Barack Obama and lifting her campaign to be the party's U.S. presidential candidate for the general election in November, projections showed.

Missouri was the seventh state to go for Clinton in voting on Super Tuesday, so called because nearly half of the U.S. states are holding contests to choose Republican or Democratic candidates for the November general election. Illinois Sen. Obama has won 11 states on Tuesday.
