WASHINGTON Feb 7 (Reuters) - Mitt Romney will suspend his campaign for the Republican nomination for U.S. president, a party source told Reuters on Thursday.

Romney, a former governor of Massachusetts, had vowed to fight on after a disappointing showing on Tuesday's primary races and caucuses, when Arizona Sen. John McCain took a clear lead in the race for the party's nomination in the November election to succeed President George W. Bush.
