Israel denies any role in Hezbollah killing
JERUSALEM |
JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel on Wednesday denied allegations that it played any role in the killing of top Hezbollah commander Imad Moughniyah in Damascus.
"Israel rejects the attempts of terror elements to attribute to Israel any involvement in this incident," Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's office said in a statement.
Israel rarely issued official statements confirming or denying involvement in assassinations carried out outside Israel and the Palestinian territories.
Hezbollah accused Israel of carrying out the car bombing in Damascus that killed Moughniyah on Tuesday.
The Israeli statement said Israel was "looking into the reports from Lebanon or Syria into the death of the Hezbollah leader".
