GE Healthcare Announces First Deployment of ApexPro FH Telemetry System on CARESCAPE Enterprise Access at Memorial Hospital North In-building wireless platform and powerful telemetry system support improved, efficient delivery of vital patient information WAUKESHA, Wis.--(Business Wire)-- GE Healthcare announced today that Memorial Hospital North is the first healthcare institution to deploy ApexPro(R) FH, a spread-spectrum frequency hopping telemetry system, on its CARESCAPE(TM) Enterprise Access(TM) in-building wireless platform. The solution provides the hospital with a single, integrated, wireless platform that enables critical patient data to be securely coordinated, managed and distributed without the communications failures, interference or interruptions associated with un-integrated systems. Opened in April 2007, Memorial Hospital North of Colorado Springs, Colorado showcases a full range of patient-centric innovations, including state-of-the-art operating suites, private patient rooms, medical libraries and high-speed, wireless Internet access for visitors. CARESCAPE Enterprise Access furthers the hospital's commitment to innovation by providing a secure, comprehensive platform for wireless voice and data communications. Using CARESCAPE Enterprise Access, clinicians can access critical patient information and communicate more effectively which supports better patient care. Powered by MobileAccess and its Wire-it-Once(TM) infrastructure, CARESCAPE Enterprise Access enables the hospital to quickly adapt to emerging wireless requirements and expansions without disrupting operations or interrupting services. Memorial Hospital North deployed CARESCAPE Enterprise Access to provide reliable performance for telemetry, cellular phone service, public safety communications, and radio frequency identification (RFID). Recently, Memorial Hospital North added ApexPro FH without disrupting operations or interrupting services. GE's medical telemetry system provides Memorial North with a large-capacity (up to 640 patients) wireless patient monitoring system with significant protection from signal interference and dropout. The system uses a bi-directional, frequency-hopping, spread-spectrum infrastructure, allowing it to "hop around" the frequency spectrum to help prevent interference. By helping to protect life-critical patient data transmissions from interference, dropout and downtime, the solution supports optimal patient care by helping to support better caregiver communication and productivity. "As a pioneer in patient-centered innovations, we implemented CARESCAPE Enterprise Access and GE's medical telemetry system to ensure that we were leveraging the best technology available to support our aggressive patient care objectives," said Tom Kerwin, chief information officer, Memorial Health System. "We've been very pleased with the results. With our CARESCAPE solution, clinicians report that they have easier, faster access to critical patient information, which is helping them respond to patients faster and make better, more informed care decisions. From our perspective, there's no better outcome." Clinicians in high-acuity environments require reliable, uninterrupted access to critical patient information. GE Healthcare is addressing this need with its CARESCAPE portfolio; a new approach to patient monitoring that integrates patient monitoring devices, communications networks and IT systems to provide easy access to patient information from a variety of devices - wireless, desktop or bedside. The CARESCAPE portfolio is intended to help clinicians act earlier in the care process to preserve and improve patient care. "The CARESCAPE portfolio demonstrates our focus on providing customers with innovative products and services that work together to help clinicians deliver quality patient care," said David Ataide, Vice President & General Manager of GE Healthcare Monitoring Solutions. "We share Memorial Hospital North's commitment to superior patient care and are pleased that their experience with CARESCAPE reflects these shared goals."
