U.S. Patent on Biometric Face Screening to Be Offered for Sale at Ocean Tomo Live IP Auction in San Francisco on April 2nd

Patent Addresses Fraud Prevention for Banks, Financial
Institutions and Their Providers and Others
SAN FRANCISCO--(Business Wire)--
FaceBase, Inc. President John Payne today announced that Lot 37,
comprised of U.S. Patent No. 6,072,894 titled "Biometric Face
Recognition for Applicant Screening", will be offered at the Ocean
Tomo Spring 2008 Live IP Auction on April 2nd at The Ritz-Carlton in
San Francisco.

"This patent provides exceptionally broad coverage of in-person
applicants. Fields of use include drivers' license applicants (e.g.
Real ID), passport applicants, mortgage applicants, benefits
applicants, etc. ... all in-person applicants where a photo is (or
could be) taken. Coverage is not limited to any particular face
recognition algorithm," commented Payne.

Payne continued, "In rising to the challenge of terrorist threats,
ID theft, bogus immigration documentation, fraudulent mortgage
applications, and the many related social ills, biometric face
recognition is seen as a most promising solution. 'Prevention is the
only way to go' and, therefore, the face recognition is pushed forward
into the screening of in-person applications. The importance of patent
protection and sublicensing are apparent given the extremely high
stakes, pace, and timeliness of biometric developments."

Potential licensees include U.S. Homeland Security developers in
Real ID, biometric passport, and immigration, as well as Financial
Institutions and their providers.
