UC Irvine Extension Offers New Electives in Personal Financial Planning Certificate Program
Retirement Planning and Test Preparation Classes Help Students
Earn Their CFP(R)
IRVINE, Calif.--(Business Wire)--
The University of California, Irvine Extension announces plans to
offer two new elective courses as part of its Personal Financial
Planning Certificate Program, a Certified Financial Planner Board of
Standards Inc. Registered Program. UC Irvine Extension's Certificate
Program in Personal Financial Planning is designed to help students
obtain their Certified Financial Planner(R) (CFP) designation. The
first course, "Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor," will be held
on the UC Irvine campus every Monday from April 21 through June 9. The
second course, "Financial Planning Case Study and Advanced Calculator
Usage: Tools to Help You Pass the CFP(R) Certificate Examination,"
will be held at the UC Irvine Learning Center in Orange on May 17, 18,
31, and June 1.
"With company pension plans now a thing of the past, and Social
Security rapidly becoming an uncertainty, financial planning for
retirement is a must," said Lori Munoz-Reiland, director of business,
management, legal, information technology and corporate solutions for
UC Irvine Extension. "Because there is no single financial solution
for everyone facing retirement, it is critical that financial planners
be knowledgeable about the many options and opportunities being
afforded to today's retirees and those planning for retirement. Our
`Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor' course will offer the
perspective and tools required for financial planners to provide
clients with appropriate retirement solutions, regardless of their
financial circumstances or goals."
For professionals desiring to earn their CFP(R) designation, one
of the most daunting aspects may be taking the examination itself. To
improve chances of passing the exam, UC Irvine Extension is offering
"Financial Planning Case Study and Advanced Calculator Usage." In this
class, students will walk through material covering the 89 CFP(R)
Board Topics, while also sharpening their financial calculator skills.
The course will simulate situations students will face in the practice
of financial planning. Students will also acquire tools and techniques
necessary to gain competence, focus, and the confidence necessary to
pass the rigorous two-day Board Standards Exam. The curriculum will
include case study questions, advanced calculator usage and problems,
investment formula calculations, and test taking methodology. Students
will solve financial problems both independently and in a group study
environment to help them sharpen their test taking skills. This course
is recommended in conjunction with the 6-Day Live Review Course
offered through UC Irvine Extension, as a supplement to assist
students.
Both courses are part of UC Irvine Extension's Personal Financial
Planning Certificate Program. Courses in the certificate program are
offered online and on campus. In addition, busy professionals can opt
to take an accelerated version of the certificate program.
