Preview Party Host Brings Rare Car, Fashion Show and the Jazzy SG Ensemble

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The Detroit Area Art Deco
Society (DAADS) opens the year's Michigan Modernism Exposition on Friday,
April 18, with a fabulous preview party, giving deco-lovers the first dibs at
amazing 20th century antiques and fine arts while sipping wine and dining on
hors d'oeuvres.
The evening, from 7 to 10 p.m., includes a sneak-peak of the exposition
along with the display of a 1937 Cord Phaeton automobile, The Art of the
Vintage Accessory fashion show and a live performance from the SG Ensemble.
The Michigan Modernism Exposition is located at the Southfield Municipal
Complex at 26000 Evergreen Road. Tickets are $50 in advance or $65 at the door
and can be purchased online at www.daads.org. The Web site also includes a
list of local retailers where tickets can be purchased. Proceeds from the
preview party benefit DAADS scholarship, restoration and preservation
programs.
"The preview party is incredible because you can be the first to purchase
20th century antiques and fine arts from merchants that travel to Michigan
from the US, Canada and Europe," said Gary Spondike, DAADS president. "DAADS
is thrilled to put on the preview party once again and are so thankful to
those who are joining us in making this one of our best openings."
    The Michigan Modernism Exposition
This annual show features the best 20th century antiques and fine arts
brought in by dealers from across the US, Canada and Europe. The exposition
embraces a broad selection of the mid-century design in furniture, jewelry,
clothing, radios, photographs, art, glass, china, silver, clocks, paintings
and textiles. The exposition continues through the weekend, with house on
Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. General admission on
those days is $8.
    The 1937 Cord Phaeton
George Arakelian will loan his 1937 Cord Phaeton convertible to the
preview. The Cord Phaeton is one of the most recognizable Art Deco automotive
icons of its time. It was unveiled at the 1935 New York Auto Show, and only
about 3,000 were made in its two short years of production. Over 2/3 of those
were closed cars, so the rarity of this car is without question.
