OpenMake Meister 7.2 Takes Advantage of Microsoft Technology to Streamline
Continuous Integration Builds
Meister streamlines the continuous integration build process for
Microsoft-based developers by using Microsoft Team Foundation Server

SAN FRANCISCO, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- OpenMake Software, a leading
provider of build to release management solutions, today announced new
features of its Meister 7.2 product that will enhance the continuous
integration process for Microsoft-based developers. OpenMake Meister 7.2, to
be released in the second quarter of 2008, includes the ability to mashup the
individual developer's Microsoft Visual Studio integrated development
environment (IDE) build with the continuous integration build running on Team
Foundation Server.
This mashup feature allows developers working with various versions of
Visual Studio, including Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, or multiple Visual
Studio solutions to automatically integrate the builds executed outside the
Visual Studio IDE running on Team Foundation Server. When a check-in occurs,
this mashup process helps prevent builds from breaking when a developer makes
changes to the source code that impacts the builds such as refactoring,
deleting or adding libraries, changing compile options, updating dependencies,
using a different version of a 3rd party library, or adding resource files.
"Microsoft-based developers often have the need to execute builds that
rely on different versions of the Microsoft compiler as well as execute builds
that use multiple Solution files," explains Steve Taylor, CTO, OpenMake
Software. "Meister 7.2 controls the application assembly process at the build
engine level leveraging MSBuild, DevEnv, Nant, Ant and Nmake to support deeply
integrated cross-language and cross-platform software applications."
By working at the build engine level, Meister automatically re-generates
the continuous integration build scripts based on the Visual Studio IDE
project data. This re-generation keeps the continuous integration build
running on Team Foundation Server in sync with the build performed inside of
the Visual Studio IDE thus substantially minimizing broken continuous
integration builds.
"OpenMake Meister fills a much requested feature by developers who use
Team Foundation Server as their application lifecycle management solution and
want to target multiple platforms from a single build definition," said Kevin
Kelly, Senior Product Manager for Visual Studio Team System at Microsoft Corp.
"This version of Meister also makes it convenient to organize a single build
for components built from earlier versions of the Visual Studio compilers
without having to rewrite the legacy build definitions."
Meister 7.2 integrates with Team Foundation Server by exposing the Team
Foundation Server item history for all objects used during the build and
automatically logs the Meister build results to the Team Foundation Server
Team Build. It also supports integrating Java objects such as .jars, .wars
and .ears into the Visual Studio build supporting cross language environments.
This cross-language support simplifies the complexities of enterprise builds
where applications written in both Eclipse, IBM-RAD and Microsoft Visual
Studio share data and dependencies and must be built together as a complete
application.
    About OpenMake Software
OpenMake Software has been an innovator of build and release management
solutions for global 2000 organizations since 1995. By managing more build
engines, such as MSBuild and Ant, OpenMake Software represents the natural
virtualization of the application build process derived directly from popular
IDEs such as Microsoft Visual Studio and Eclipse. Putting workflow on top of
chaos does not solve the build problems. OpenMake Software provides free
workflow management with Mojo, but addresses the entire build management
challenge with Meister.
